Honoring best practices In the words of Prof. Wole Soyinka, “investigative reporting is the vital force for the restoration of human dignity”.
It has been suggested that the best strategy to improve professionalism in the media today would be through further training, and, most importantly, through the promotion of investigative reporting which is best achieved by rewarding best practices .
The Wole Soyinka Investigative reporting Award has generated an enviable profile in the media industry with its quality objectives and as the first and only award in Nigeria dedicated to investigative reporting. Very important to note, is the interest it spurred and generated among the crop of Nigerian reporters to pursue investigative reports.
The Soyinka Award Secretariat had after the end of Freedom House 18 months Nigeria program indicated its desire for institutional collaboration to institutionalize the Award in the country. It put on hold the staging of a second edition after its call for application and the resultant overwhelming response that greeted it from local journalists partly as a result of the need to secure a long lasting support base that could guarantee its feasibility and continuity.
To help renew positive values that directly connects media reporting to democratic growth while aiding the mechanisms for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of corrupt practices, in both public and private sector, the Wole Soyinka Award Secretariat is inviting organizations and individuals to come to its aid by supporting any segment of the award, while thanking those good spirited organizations who have responded to our call days after we got in touch.
